Designed to Weather the Storms.

Appreciating Coastal Life means understanding the special demands of storm security. Mirador’s design offers extra levels of protection, including:

  • First-floor elevations higher than 22 feet above sea level
  • Construction standards that meet inland Wind Storm 1 requirements, designed to withstand 120 mph winds
  • Windows fitted with impact resistant glass
  • Designed so that shingles and other debris will not become projectiles during hurricane-force winds
  • On-site power generation to support elevators, lighting, refrigeration, fire detection, health services equipment and air conditioning of common areas

Special Evacuation Zone: an SQLC Innovation.

Mirador’s parent company, SQLC, conceived the idea of a special Evacuation Zone: a concrete-block construction on a site of structural steel, equipped with an emergency generator. SQLC also created special security points on campus to offer even greater protection. SQLC’s storm-protection features proved themselves in 2008 at Mirador’s sister community, The Buckingham in Houston, when Hurricane Ike struck with 110 mph winds and higher gusts.
